The Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF) has reached a framework with the European Union and the World Health Organization that will allow for the evacuation and treatment of hundreds of injured and ailing Palestinian children in European hospitals.

The Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF) is proud to announce a landmark humanitarian effort in cooperation with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC), aimed at providing critical medical treatment to Palestinian children from Gaza. The program is set to commence with the Spanish government as the first host country, with many others expected to join soon. This marks a significant step in addressing the urgent healthcare needs of children, facilitating the evacuation and treatment of hundreds of injured and ailing Palestinian children in European hospitals..

On July 24, 2024, fifteen injured and ailing Palestinian children, accompanied by twenty-seven of their immediate relatives—including a mother who was injured and will require care—will arrive in Madrid from Cairo. These children suffer from severe conditions such as traumatic injuries, oncology needs, and chronic cardiac conditions, requiring specialized medical intervention.

Spain has demonstrated exemplary leadership by deploying resources from multiple ministries, including the ministry of Health, and the ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migrations, to coordinate this humanitarian mission facilitated through a Medevac operation. The Ministry of Defense's provision of a medicalized aircraft underscores Spain's commitment to ensuring the safe transport and care of these patients.

The children will receive treatment at esteemed Spanish hospitals across various regions, including Euskadi, Asturias, Navarra, Castilla La Mancha, and Madrid.

In a statement by PCRF’s chairwoman of the board Vivian Khalaf, said: “We are thankful to the government of Spain, the ERCC, and WHO for responding to our appeals. This milestone cooperation will secure life-saving treatment for injured children in Europe. This partnership is a testament to the power of international solidarity and compassion, reinforcing our mission at PCRF to provide these children with critical humanitarian and medical care during these challenging times.”

Meanwhile, Tareq Hailat, who heads PCRF’s treatment abroad program, stated: “The courage and resilience of these young patients inspire us every day. Sadly, many more children, like these 15, urgently require medical attention and evacuation. This mission represents hope for many families in Gaza, demonstrating the transformative impact of global solidarity. We are also expecting similar missions to start as of next week in each of Belgium, Norway, and Italy, and we hope for them to continue."

The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migrations in cooperation with the NGO Accem will oversee the hosting and support of the childrens and their companions throughout their stay in Spain, ensuring they receive comprehensive care and assistance. This holistic approach reflects Spain's dedication to providing a nurturing environment for the families during their time abroad.

This initiative not only addresses immediate medical needs but also strengthens the bonds of international cooperation in times of crisis. PCRF looks forward to further cooperations with other European countries to expand this vital humanitarian effort and extend lifesaving treatment to more children in Gaza.
